Sad movies always make me smile

The weatherwoman on the radio warned that it was very likely there would be a small storm in the evening. However, the women and the belle of the village were all getting ready and looking forward to the evening. Without even talking to each other, the women seemed to know where they were heading to and who they would be seeing. They tried to finish up the chores friskily. The husbands and the lads were sick and tired of this bullcrap: some kept complaining and whining, others shutting their mouths since words couldn’t stop these ladies, and some totally ignored the women. Perhaps, out of jealousy? So what was this craze about? Who was the cause and the force behind this phenomenon?

I’ve been asking Burmese ladies over the age of thirty why they only had eyes for this guy, out of many. Most say they are not sure but he had a harsh sexy voice. May be that was the catalyst for Rod Stewart’s road to fame all across the globe too. Is the harsh sexy voice everything a woman wants? Well, I haven’t got a clue. In fact, this heart breaker was the Brad Pitt of Burma. His name was Pyay Nyein, (Peace) in English. He passed away may be twenty or so years ago. He was a tall, slender man with an ordinary Burman face. To tell you the truth, he was far from being handsome. In my opinion, he was rather plain. But what made him more successful and popular than all other better-looking actors in the movie industry? According to the women, it was not the look they fell for but the harsh voice, the way he carried himself confidently but not with arrogance, his half-smiling face, and most important of all, the sad movies he was in.
